Work continues on the General Steam Navigation project with this months highlight being the first photos of the freshly cast nameplates. The nameplates are being made for us by ProCast in West Yorkshire who are the best company for the task. These were kindly sponsored by 2 of our members Mr Paul Williams and an anonymous sponsor. The nameplates are on schedule to be completed in time for the societies AGM in March where we hope to have them on display.
Issue 6 of the Packet is due to be released in late January which will feature our news on this year’s AGM, our biggest ever engineering report and the usual updates from about society stands, machine shop and cranking up the pressure. This issue will also feature a rather special historical piece thanks to @SunnySouthSam on Twitter who sent us the news report on GSNs naming ceremony that was originally published in the Southern Railways in house magazine.
Last month’s sponsorship part of the month was the axle box covers for the Pony truck and the tender and we are delighted to have received sponsorship for 4 of the 8 covers with the other 4 still being available. This months ‘Sponsorship part of the month’ are the front bogie Spring beam & link which we have 4 available each costing £850. Each of the Spring beams will be arrive forged, machined and tested ready to install on the front bogie. These are the most expensive of the remaining missing components required for the front bogie so having them sponsored would be a great boost for the project. Everyone who sponsors a component will get a certificate thanking them and their name on our roll of honour. If you’d like to sponsor one of the axle box covers please do get in contact.
We'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Years and as always thank you for your support
